I purchased this book in a wonderful paperback package. I have been using my kindle almost exclusively for a couple of years, and had forgotten how a good paperback feels in the hands. Tried to keep from running my fingers over the smooth cover while admiring the artwork it contained.Leo Waterman has become my favorite modern private investigator. He is a Seattle denizen who obviously knows his way around the area. His father was an old time grafting politician, and Leo grew up around council chambers. In this novel, Leo finds himself housesitting with a beautiful girlfriend. Hearing breaking glass in the middle of the night, he decides to check his neighbor's property. Law enforcement rolls up just as our hero is about to make a collar, and tasers the perp! The poor burglar dies of a heart attack, but just prior to the final event, he looks Mr. Waterman in the eye and says "Leo". Now the private eye has a challenge, since he did not recognize the dead man. He goes on an investigative spree that leads to many aches, and assorted bruises and contusions. How a simple coincidence leads to love, heartache and pay it forward behavior is very interesting to follow. Many of his old friends join him during parts of his search for evil doers, and I for one, am always happy when Large Marge, Nearly Normal, George and a few more of his Dad's old compatriots join in the fun.G.M. Ford is a fine writer who always gets my attention quickly and holds it through to the end of his story. In this book, he appears to be giving Leo more of a sense of responsibility than he has in the past. Could it be the Waterman is growing older? I think so, but I will leave the final decision up to the rest of the readers of Chump Change.
