I have now read all the Marty Singer series. This book being the latest, I confess I am a Marty Singer fan. It's kind of like my relationship with Mike Connelly's Harry Bosch, Chuck Driskell's Gage Hartline, Steve Gannon's Daniel Kane, or Jeff Carson's David Wolf. All those writers protagonists have several things in common, but the one characteristic that grabs me the most is their humanness in the way they go about their work.Marty Singer is no "smooth operator". He's a down to earth investigator that sometimes gets his pants pulled down by his own actions. Just the way one would expect from such a character. He plots and plans attempting to always do the right thing by his client, but for all his planning he doesn't always come out smelling like the proverbial rose. But what he is, is committed to the task at hand.I don't re tell story lines in my reviews, but what I will say is this book drew me in and kept me in from page one to page last. That, to me spells great plot. Character development for the antagonists is also well done. I liked the rising action which detailed how the conflict got worse, as well as the falling action that led to fixing the conflict. The resolution, or climax, kept me in the dark until the very end.I realize, of course, I'm commenting on the writing skill of Matt Iden who puts this all together time after time. But then that's why I read him and will continue to read him, along with the others named above.
